slip-and-fall-injuries_2The slip and fall lawsuit sites negligence. According to the paperwork filed by Tucker’s slip and fall injury attorney, Tucker was shopping at Burlington Coat Factory when her foot slipped on some sort of substance on the floor, causing her to crash to the ground. Her attorney feels that the store was negligent in not only allowing the slick substance to remain on the floor, but also for failing to correct the condition of the floor or to erect a barricade that would have alerted Tucker to the situation and prevented the accident from happening.

As a direct result of the accident, Tucker not only experienced a great deal of pain, she lost wages as a result of her injuries and also accumulated medical bills. She’s also worried that the accident will have a detrimental impact on her future ability to earn a living.

According to the paperwork Tucker’s slip and fall injury attorney filed, Tucker is seeking $50,000 from each business named in the lawsuit to help her recover her monetary expenses, lost wages, and to help compensate for the suffering she experienced.

Slip and fall injuries are a huge problem in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that in a 12 month period, more than 1 million people in the United States have been injured in a slip and fall accident, and more than 17,000 people die each year as a direct result of the accident.

Pedestrian Dangers

While crossing the street in Queens, a 50 year old man was struck by a large Sedan.

He was rushed to the New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and they couldn’t

save his life despite their efforts. At approximately 9:23 on Wednesday night, the man was hit by the Pontiac as he crossed Starr Ave. at Van Dam St. in Long Island City, police said.

The driver of the car stayed at the site of the wreck. His vehicle had a shattered windshield as well as a large dent in the hood. The attending police officer could not immediately tell who was at fault in this accident. Mayor de Blasio made traffic fatalities a priority under his Vision Zero initiative. Legislation written under this plan made failure to yield to pedestrians who have the right of way, a misdemeanor if the accident results in death or serious injury.

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable users of the road.  “Unfortunately, pedestrians were one of the few groups of road users to experience an increase in fatalities in the United States in 2013, totaling 4,735 deaths.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports. Every pedestrian is at risk of injury or death from traffic crashes no matter what their age, but some people are at higher risk.

  • Pedestrians that are male are more likely to be injured or die in a crash with a motor vehicle than females.
  • Young adult (ages 15-29 years) and teen pedestrians will be more likely to be treated in emergency rooms for crash-related injuries than that of any other age group.
  • In 2012, 34% of all pedestrians killed in traffic crashes were legally drunk, with a blood alcohol level of greater than or equal to 0.08 grams per deciliter.
  • Children as pedestrians are at an even greater risk of death or injury from traffic crashes due to their small size, as well as due to their lack of experience judging distances and speeds, and their lack of understanding of traffic rules. Nearly one in four traffic deaths among children ages 14 and under are pedestrian deaths.

Even with the dangers, everyone knows that walking is good for your health, and that it is good for the environment too. However, before you head out for a stroll around the neighborhood, a power walk, or an errand, you should take the necessary steps to be safe when walking on roadways. Make these safety precautions a normal part of your routine:

  • Exercise caution at intersections. Always, always, use crosswalks.
  • Refrain from staring down at your smartphone. Keep your eyes on the road.
  • If you use headphones to listen to music, keep the volume low enough to hear the traffic around you.
  • Increase your visibility at night by wearing retro-reflective clothing.
  • Carry a flashlight at night for better visibility for yourself and for others to see you.

What You Should and Shouldn’t Do When Seeking an IRS Tax Settlement

It’s believed that approximately 35% of all Americans are dealing with debt collectors right now. Getting contacted by a debt collector for an unpaid credit card bill isn’t fun. Getting contacted by a debt collection agency and finding out that the IRS is coming after you for unpaid taxes is far worse. The best thing you can do is look into how you can get an IRS tax settlement. Once you’ve procured one, you can start making payments and get out from under the debt without having to worry about the IRS garnishing your wages or taking steps to seize your property.

What You Shouldn’t Do

The absolute last thing you should do is ignore your IRS tax debt. Too many people do this and the results are never good. The debt isn’t going to go away, but it will continue to gather fees and interest until the bill becomes impossible to manage. The sooner you seek an IRS tax settlement, the better.

Don’t try to handle the matter on your own. Communicating with the IRS is never easy or fast, and when you try to arrange for an IRS tax settlement by yourself, there are several different things that could delay or even halt the process. People who try to secure an IRS tax settlement on their own, often find that their failure to get professional help costs thousands and thousands of dollars.

What You Should Do

Seek the assistance of a professional attorney who has a great deal of experience helping clients get the IRS tax settlements they deserve. Once you’ve connected with the attorney, you can sit back and let them handle the matter. Not only does the attorney have the connections and experience needed to secure the settlement in a timely manner, they also have the tools needed to handle the wide variety of situations that can crop up.

Before contacting the IRS on your behalf, your tax attorney will arrange a meeting with you during which time they will explain your various options and based on the information provided, the best possible course of action can be decided upon.

Having a professional tax attorney smooths out the process of obtaining an IRS tax settlement, but you shouldn’t expect an overnight conclusion. You need to be patient. The process takes time. The exact amount of time needed depends on a variety of different factors, including the amount you owe the IRS, the details of your case, and the type of settlement required.

If a day comes when you receive a letter from the IRS stating that you owe them money, take a deep breath and stay calm. Remember that you do have options and that as long as you quickly contact a professional tax attorney, the amount of interest and number of fees attached to the debt can be minimized and that a settlement between you and the IRS can be created that makes all parties happy.
